How we manage your claim
From your first call to final resolution — here's exactly what happens when you engage Turner & Wright.
Initial Assessment
Contact us by phone or email. We'll discuss your situation, review the details of your property and the defects you've identified, and give you an honest, obligation-free assessment of whether you have a viable HBCF claim. As part of this, we review the status of your builder to determine whether an HBCF trigger event has occurred and whether your property is eligible for an HBCF claim.
Qualification
Our in-house building consultant carries out a short on-site qualification, assessing the defects and preparing an internal risk assessment for our board's consideration. If your property qualifies for us to prepare and manage a claim, we move to the next step. If it does not, we will tell you plainly that we are not able to take on and manage a claim for you. There is no fee for the qualification inspection.
Agreement
If your property qualifies, we provide a formal agreement setting out the terms and the rate we charge to take on the risk of preparing your claim. This is called a success fee, and it is charged on a no payout, no fee basis: if there is no payout from icare, you pay nothing. Under the agreement, we engage and pay for the expert consultants at our own risk.
Expert consultant inspection
Our expert consultants thoroughly inspect your home to identify defects, incomplete work and any readily visible non-compliance with the National Construction Code. Our in-house consultant attends the start of each inspection and manages the progress of the reports. You do not need to lift a finger.
Claim Lodgement
Your Turner & Wright claims consultant prepares the required documentation, compiles the expert reports and makes a compliant lodgement with icare.
icare Inspection
icare sends its own consultant to verify the defects raised. Our in-house building consultant attends and discusses each defect with them directly. All you need to do is provide access to the property on the day.
icare Assessment
icare completes its assessment and liaises with Turner & Wright on the outcome.
Outcome and Settlement
If your claim results in a payout, you receive the settlement from icare, less our agreed success fee. If your claim is unsuccessful, you are free to discuss rectification options with icare directly, and Turner & Wright steps aside. You owe us nothing, and you keep all of the expert reports we commissioned and paid for.
